As the capital of Rhode Island, Providence is the most populous city in the state. The city is located by the Providence River just before the Narragansett Bay. Providence is a historical city, and a great place to relax for weekend at a B&B. During the summer you can participate in the event, WaterFire, an environmental art installation. Experience the typical bonfires, classical and world music, and sculptures that are all part of this event. For some great performances, get tickets for the Trinity Repertory Company, the Providence Black Repertory Company, or for a more serious event, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. The younger crowd will enjoy the great underground music scene; be sure to check out a local newspaper for current shows. Spend a beautiful afternoon at one of the many Providence parks, like Roger Williams Park, the Prospect Terrace Park and Waterplace Park. History buffs will enjoy touring the pre-revolutionary houses in historic neighborhoods. After a tiring day of sightseeing, head back to your Providence bed and breakfast or Providence inn to relax and get ready for a fabulous dinner. Try the Pot au Feu for French Cuisine, or for something a little spicier, head to the Cuban Revolution Restaurant. For a laid back evening get some grub at the Ri Ra an Irish Pub and Restaurant. Less
